Wallet
Your passkey wallet
One passkey, a Midnight account and a Cardano account, and the other wallets Nightshade connects.
Nightshade's own wallet opens with a passkey: Face ID, Touch ID, a phone or a security key. One passkey gives you two accounts:
| Account | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Midnight | Trading, liquidity, private tokens, and receiving SHADE |
| Cardano | Holding NIGHT and ADA on Cardano, paying into the SHADE sale, and, soon, making DUST from Cardano NIGHT |
Both live in your browser. There's no server holding a key, and nothing to write down unless you want a backup.
The Cardano account is being finished and tested now, alongside the SHADE sale.
Connect
Press Connect wallet and pick Face ID or Touch ID. The first time, your device makes a passkey for Nightshade. After that, connecting asks for it once per tab, and nothing asks again for each transaction.
The wallet's keys come from the passkey itself. The same passkey opens the same wallet on any device it syncs to (your iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager, for example), on Nightshade and on Guess.
Your browser or password manager needs passkey PRF support. If it doesn't have it, the dialog tells you, and you can use Lace or 1AM instead.
Your addresses
- Midnight address (
mn_addr…, in the account menu): send NIGHT, SHADE and other public Midnight tokens here. - Cardano address (
addr1…, in the account menu): send NIGHT or ADA on Cardano here, from an exchange or another wallet. - Private address (
mn_shield-addr…, on the Private page): others send you private tokens here. Nothing on chain links it to your Midnight address.
Your Cardano account
The Cardano account is being finished and tested now.
The same passkey makes your Cardano account, separately from your Midnight keys, so the two share nothing. It's a normal Cardano wallet with 24 recovery words. Show words on the Token sale page reveals them, and they import into Lace, Eternl or any other Cardano wallet.
Send NIGHT and ADA to its address and you can pay into the SHADE sale from it. Keep about 8 ADA there for a sale payment (why).
Back up a recovery seed
If you might lose the passkey itself (a single device, no sync), use Back up a recovery seed in the account menu. It shows a seed that restores the wallet from the connect dialog, with Restore a Nightshade wallet from its seed. Anyone with that seed controls the wallet, so keep it offline. Nobody from Nightshade will ever ask for it.
Lace and 1AM
Nightshade also connects any wallet with Midnight's wallet connector, such as Lace or 1AM. Install the extension, set up a Midnight wallet, and pick it in the connect dialog. The extension asks you to approve each transaction and proves it itself. Nightshade remembers which one you chose.
Some things work only in the passkey wallet for now: helping fill queued orders in the background, and splitting a Dark Pool order into lots.
Syncing
A Midnight wallet has to read the chain to find what it holds. The first time takes several minutes; after that it picks up where it stopped. The account button shows Syncing and a percentage until it's done. Private tokens take a little longer to appear than public ones, because your wallet has to find coins that only it can see.
Each site you use keeps its own copy, so the first sync happens once on Nightshade and once on Guess.
